The Panda Conservation Experience

Protecting the Heart of Sichuan’s Ecosystem

Set deep in the misty mountains of Sichuan, China, this program offers students and their families an unprecedented opportunity to support the restoration of giant panda habitats. Participants engage with research scientists at world-class conservation centers, learning how protecting this flagship species secures the entire biodiversity of the bamboo forests. The program is specifically designed for high school and university students, as well as eco-conscious families seeking a purpose-driven educational journey.

Conservation Activities

Volunteers can take part in preparing food for giant pandas, including bamboo leaves, bamboo stems, and traditional panda nutrition cakes (窝窝头). Through these hands-on activities, participants learn about panda diets, daily care, and the work that goes into supporting healthy animals in conservation centers.

Upon successful completion of the program, participants receive an International Volunteer Service Certificate that officially documents the service location, type of work, dates, and total hours served. Additionally, exceptional volunteers may be eligible for a formal letter of recommendation to support their future endeavors.

Volunteers can learn directly from researchers and conservation staff about giant panda ecology, habitat protection, and the importance of wildlife corridors that connect fragmented forest habitats. Through conversations, observation, and hands-on activities, participants gain a deeper understanding of how protecting pandas also means protecting the wider forest ecosystem and the many species that depend on it.
